I love your blog I just discover it from yaye marie’s s blog. without even reading the other posts i m a fan . That being said it is sad that Africans are treated as being from the jungle all the time . What get to me is that even though we have internet everywhere people don t take the time to educate themselves about Africa. I don’t care about what JAy does because he is trying to make money , but I do care about all these women in the video doing all kind of foolish things to be famous.

Lol I’ve never been much of a JayZ fan. Rap these days really isn’t much. It doesn’t have really anythin gpositive things to say. Of course you get the occasional artist but over all rap isn’t wha tit us eot be. don’t get me wrong, I love it, just stating a fact. If the africans that were born here were more educated about the mother land and our history we’d be better off. Also we need to stop giving labels to one another. I personally believe that a person of african harritage that was born in New York and a person of african harritage that was born in let’s say The Gambia are equally african. They might have a different skin tone, religion, language, or any other barrier but deep down in our blood, we are all african. No matter how much of us in America try to cast off the african in us we are all africans.

While some may hear those lines, and think they are degrading I feel that it is entertainment. I won’t stop listening to everything by them simply because of one or two lines. Hopefully, people are not blinded and will know that Africa is very evolved and prominent. people tend to take Hip Hop lyrics literally. Go deeper than the surface.

Jay Z pronounced the African girl’s name “Mfufu,” alluding to a stand-up comedy skit by Eddie Murphy, which was also a diss to African girls (calling them butt naked women all of a sudden wanting half of their estranged American husbands’ money). Jay Z’s lyrics were a total nod to the skit if my memory serves me right. I think you can find the Eddie Murphy clip on Youtube.

This does not detract anything from your message, nonetheless. I hate it when people assume crap about Africans, and this blog entry is a sad reminder of the misconceptions that have lasted for decades, courtesy of Murphy and his ilk.

Funny, I used to love Eddie Murphy’s stand-up work until that joke. Ugh.
